Want to really experience activism? Check out “Awake: A Dream from Standing Rock,” which takes a look into the heart of the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL), and the stand-off between activists and the federal government.
AWAKE follows the dramatic rise of the historic #NODAPL native-led peaceful resistance at the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, North Dakota, which captured the world’s attention. Thousands of activists converged from around the country to stand in solidarity with the Water Protectors (activists) protesting the construction of the $3.7 billion Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL). The Water Protectors at Standing Rock have awakened the nation and forever changed the way we fight for clean water, the environment and the future of our planet.
Following this screening, audience members are invited to join in a panel discussion hosted by faculty members, students, and regional community members. Please join us for a conversation following this thought-provoking film.
Join us as Ohio University Libraries, Environmental Studies, Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs and the Athena Cinema celebrate their fifth year of sponsoring the popular “Sustainability Film Series,” an eclectic and diverse series of documentaries in the fields of environmental studies and sustainability.
The purpose of the Sustainability Series, originally titled in 2012 the Common Experience on Sustainability (CEPS), is to serve as an introduction to local and global issues on the environment. The current film series still remains true to its origins by continuing to create an awareness of environmental issues through speakers, activities, and films.
